There's almost always a line out front of this casual, friendly, all-cash oldtimer, but Mom, Jer, and I timed our dinner just right this evening, and we were seated immediately. A half-dozen clams on the half-shell ($4.95) were larger but just as tender as the clams at Kubel's, and less expensive to boot. Jer's scallop melt ($8.95), with bacon, mushrooms, and swiss, was good, too — like a rough-hewn coquilles St. Jacques.
Though Jer's seafood and pasta entrée ($16.95) was immense, he managed to polish off the shrimp and crab while leaving some penne and vegetables behind. Mom and I each enjoyed a one-pound steamed lobster ($17.95) with sweet Jersey corn on the cob; the steamed mussels piled on one side seemed little more than an afterthought. Good lemonade ($1.50).
