In the early morning, I had this place almost to myself; a small sesame-seeded biscotti (25 cents) served as breakfast. I returned late afternoon to compare the cannoli ($2.50) with the Modern Pastry version (see that later post); I also picked up a pistachio torrone ($15 per pound), a nut-laden bar that wavered between nougat and a brittle. Letting a piece settle in my mouth for a moment softened it up just right.
