This dining room and lunch counter was already a long-standing South Beach favorite a dozen years ago when I stopped in for a very good Cuban sandwich. As you can see, they're comfortable with fish, too.
This fried grouper sandwich ($6.75) was very light, with flaky, mild flesh, and well-served by a little Batey hot sauce, which you can see to one side of my batido de trigo (wheat shake; about 20 fl. oz.; $3.50). If you rely on those concoctions at the juice bar of your local fitness center, put your stomach at rest: Puerto Sagua's trigo shake is grainy-textured, barely sweet, and probably good for you, not to mention just plain good.
