Island Burgers and Shakes
Considering the roster of some 70 named varieties, 40 or so optional toppings, a half-dozen bun and bread options, and a choice of beef patty or grilled chicken breast, it's no wonder I can never remember just what I've tried here. Most recently I headed for the Route 66 ($8.95): avocado, bacon, and swiss on dark rye bread. Not bad once compacted into burgerlike form, but next time I'll take mine on a bun.
Since Island Burgers doesn't serve fries, only baked potatoes (with any of those 40 toppings) or "dirty" chips, when I arrive here extra-hungry I tend toward the black-and-white milkshake ($4.25). It's a loose swirl of chocolate and vanilla, with a consistency not far from soft-serve ice cream; sipping it is a pleasantly slow task, best performed on island time.
