Café con Leche

No relation to the duo on Amsterdam Ave., this Ecuadorian eatery bills itself not only as a panaderia, or bakery, but also a picanteria. Arrive with an appetite and they'll make you a savory plate like chuchucara ($10), an intriguing if somewhat dry mélange of roast pork, french fries, plantain, fried hominy, lettuce, onions, and oversize boiled kernels of corn. Follow it with an excellent alfajor ($1.25), two crumbly biscuits joined by dulce de leche and topped with powdered sugar.
