Miss Mamie's Spoonbread Too

Exceptional fried chicken.

The juicy meat is sealed away under crisp, slightly peppery skin, and it's accompanied by coarsely chopped collard greens and the weekends-only cornbread stuffing ($13.95 all told). For dessert, try the peach cobbler (below; $4.95, plus $1 for ice cream).

On a prior visit, the North Carolina-style chopped BBQ was tangy; a mason jar of homemade lemonade was tart but sweet; and a slice of sweet potato pie was cool, smooth, and just a little spicy.

Décor is casual; service might gently be described as unrushed.

I find Spoonbread's a bit on the heavy side. Try the fried chicken at 107 West! A light crunch and a neat trick of partailly deboning the quarters for that elusive goal of even cooking. Sietsma of the Voice concurs, for the record. A solid restaurant all around, in fact, that I see you have so far missed.
