Jahn's

(This location is closed.) This shopworn "ice cream parlor and restaurant" stirred up a fine vanilla egg cream ($2.10).

The surviving Jahn's, in Jackson Heights, has a familiar, well-illuminated counter-and-booth layout. By contrast, in its later years the Richmond Hill location could seem very dreary unless you were in the the company of a very lively group — or unless you've considered that it's harder and harder to find a good egg cream.
