Garifuna Star

(This venue is closed.) I'm fond of West African food, and I'm still getting to know Honduran, so I was very excited to try a restaurant that offered a hybrid of the two.

Serving Garifuna food must have seemed a sketchy business proposition — the owners never did change the awning, which in October 2007 (bottom two photos) still bore the name of the previous occupant, Romance Restaurant — so I was disappointed but not totally surprised to see two neon-colored police notices stuck to the front door. Unlike Department of Health citations, restraining orders are tough to bounce back from; eight months later (top photo), the notices are down, but the stools are still up on the counter.
