The 37th Annual International African Arts Festival

Last year's festival was much stronger on arts, crafts, and fashion, but I also came across Caribbean and Southern chow as well as one stall featuring cuisine from the Brazilian state of Bahia (shown).

Nathan's Famous 2008 Hot Dog Eating Contest
Wednesday, July 4, noon
Corner of Surf and Stillwell Aves., Coney Island
Free admission (also televised on ESPN); San Jose native Joey Chestnut defends his title against contenders including six-time champion Takeru Kobayashi of Japan
