The owners of this informal eatery prepare traditional dishes from the American South and throughout the Caribbean, especially their former home country of Guyana.
A thin spread of split chickpeas adds body to the Guyanese version of roti, griddled in-house. The flatbread is wrapped around the likes of curried goat, with potato and chickpeas, though as with many Caribbean goat dishes, beware the occasional bone. This platter ($11) also included a palate-freshener of tangy diced sweet potato, plus a side order of callaloo ($3). Callaloo comes in many forms, but some combination of okra and a leafy green vegetable is standard; this version, sparing with gooey okra, was brightened by spinach and coconut milk.
