Treffurth's

The writing on the roof cornice is the only remaining evidence of Treffurth's Restaurant and Cafe, which occupied the ground floor of this building beginning in 1900. According to the designation report for the Noho Historic District, prepared by Donald Presa for the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission, the "pre-1854 building" was raised to a full four stories in 1885, then given a new facade in 1900, when Richard L. Treffurth assumed the lease. You can read more about the features and history of the building in the designation report; details about the restaurant have so far proved elusive.
