This Cuban-owned variety store rests very comfortably on the sunny side of the street; inside, it has the well-worn feel of a favorite guayabera.
The shelves may seem thinly stocked, but at the counter, amid the boxes of sweets, you'll find turron de mani (various brands; 1.5 oz.; 50 cents). This peanut nougat, shipped north from Miami's Hialeah district, is a fudgy blend of nuts, sugar, and honey.

My daughter and I were visiting Las Vegas for a night, and found this wonderful Cuban bakery, where we bought treats and coffee for breakfast. Among them was Turron De Mani. That was my favorite. I have found the recipe on line and tried to make it twice. It does not turn out near as nice as the bakery. If I was near a Cuban bakery or store I would buy it in a heart beat. But, living in a small town in Utah, with nothing but Walmart, I have no options. Can you PLEASE give me a recipe for Turron De Mani. I know it is ground roasted peanuts, sugar, water, vanilla and a pinch of salt. Mine is too sweet, and nothing compared to Cuban made.
Thank you
