Not that my second-class accommodations aboard the sleeper train from Bangkok, Thailand to Butterworth, Malaysia, offered much choice. That's my dinner of soup (chicken noodle, as I recall), two pineapple slices, and orange juice — more than enough to sustain me till I filled my belly, repeatedly, in the food lover's paradise that is Penang. Also shown: the just-manageable corridor of the train; a few sights seen out the window (click on the photo of the trees for a better look, which shows they each bear a sap bucket); a ferry from Butterworth to the island of Penang; my ferry's passenger deck.
Though his name conjures Hitchcock, I highly recommend The Man in Seat Sixty-One if you'd like more information and reassurance on traveling internationally by train, especially in Asia.

(From a December 2006 visit)

Wow seems like you had a good time on the train. The ferry photos are great.
Cheers!
