These eggplant roll-ups ($5.99 per pound; three were $3.23) were filled with a creamy, garlicky farmer cheese flecked with dill; gradually they also exuded a thin pale oil (olive? sunflower?) that threatened to ooze out of the clamshell container. After my experience transporting tamarind stew from the West Indian Day Parade — for weeks, my camera case smelled of the tropics — it seemed safest (and most immediately satisfying) to do away with the roll-ups quickly, on a side street. Though my fingers touched nothing but the container and a plastic fork, somehow I needed two napkins for a clean getaway.

Dave - I always carry those flimsy plastic bags (to tie around the clamshell) for just this reason! But your solution is more fun...

Dave, those look quite good, even if they were messy. I like the new layout, too, with just a short phrase on the main blog.
