The ice cream at Taste the Tropics (shown above in mural touch-up mode) gets runny very quickly, at least on the steamy days when I'm likely to visit. But tempted by flavors like Irish moss and Guinness Stout (one scoop each, dripping into my hand, below left; $2.85) or pistachio-peanut (a single flavor, below right; $2.20), there's little reason not to dive right in. Except, perhaps, if you're carrying a camera, though on a previous visit my ice cream began melting so fast and furiously that I didn't get a picture, and my only takeaway was a few soursop drops on my Merrells.
Speaking of touch-ups, Taste the Tropics has made a perplexing edit to the awning (which I didn't think to question at the time). Whether in ice cream or pudding, it's "grapenut." The flavor is much better-known in New England, but you can try it on Nostrand, too.

I've often seen the flavor listed as "Gratenut" on the pints at my regular Jamaican restaurant.

Interesting. Which restaurant is that, pray tell?

Oh man. I love love love Taste the Tropics. My parents are from the Caribbean (Trinidad to be exact) so Taste the Tropics is like an awesome taste of home. Soursop is by far my favorite.
