Dinnertime is the only time you'll get a taste of The Redhead's buttermilk fried chicken ($17) and its expertly crisped, sweet crust surrounding moist, tender meat (though the dark meat, on my visit, had a touch of eggy flavor). "Sweet," of course, is a comparative term. I prefer a more peppery style, but I admired The Redhead's delicate salad (hiding in back) of apples, walnuts, and baby spinach. Cornbread's good, too. Also shown below: a westward view along 14th St., a block north, shortly after sunset.
