Here's the place to pick up kenkey at the checkout (salted or unsalted; $1). Though Asian-run — I believe the owners are Korean — this market does indeed devote most of its shelf space to African imports, such as "shitor," a chili-pepper condiment not unlike the Malaysian sambal belacan. (It's also available in at least one ruder spelling.)
Another intercontinental connnection: Danish-brewed Power Malt (330 ml.; $2), more barley-rich and less syrupy sweet than most of its malt-beverage fellows, with a hoppy undercurrent.

During the course of your adventures in eating have you ever actually needed an actual translator? Just out of curiosity.

A translator would have been useful on many occasions. Sometimes passersby have helped out; sometimes I've just flown by the seat of my pants. Very often, discovering what can be understood without speaking the language is fascinating in itself!
