There's very little of the namesake ingredient in this vegan café's roasted Japanese pumpkin sandwich ($9), served on whole spelt rye and accompanied by veggie sticks thatched with sprouts. But add sea salt, ground black pepper, extra virgin olive oil, caramelized onions, ground walnuts, (vegan) goat cheese, and "seasonal greens," and you've got a mighty tasty package. If burgers of equal artistry were on the menu, Peacefood Café would be mobbed; as is, the sunny dining area is easygoing, verging on blissful. Peace out.

i've wanted to try this cafe. Do you think it's worth travelling to UWS for? Thanks.

I don't know much about vegan food, and I've tried only the one sandwich. After looking at your blog Thoughtful Plate, my thought is that you'd want to give Peacefood Cafe the once-over — but bring a friend so you can compare notes over your meal, and so you have someone to talk to on the (long?) ride home.

Thanks for your response. I've heard that though the food is good, the service leaves much to be desired. If I'm ever around that area, I'll give it a try.

I would definitely recommend Peacefood; their food and treats are all delicious. Just don't let them nuke your scone. For some reason they like to rubberize them out of freshness.
Service varies from super friendly and attentive to aloof, but the food is consistently fresh, good, and fairly priced (for omnis and vegans).
For more upscale vegan fare head to Blossom Uptown (formerly Cafe Blossom), or cross the park to Candle 79.

I have been to the Peace Food Cafe at least 10 times, and I have had only great food and great service. I highly recommend the chick pea sticks, the dumplings and the quinoa salad. Service has always been friendly. Eric, the owner, regularly comes to our table to make sure things are ok, dishes on time.
And the price, for all this great food, is slightly north of cheap. A neighborhood treasure.
