I may never develop an overweening affection for the combo of vanilla and peanut butter, but the cake-style donuts at Holey Cream ($1.25) — reportedly made to the specifications of Dreesen's Famous Donuts of East Hampton — deserve all the love they get. Very nice crumb, and without the hand-dipped glaze, very good for dunking, I'll bet.
There's Sedutto ice cream and frozen yogurt, too, as well as bulky cupcakes crowned with the likes of an Oreo cookie or, if you must, a peanut-butter cup.

I went a few days after they opened and had a bunch of frosted ones. As a fan of the Dreseen's since I was a wee nipper, let me say I think their concept is a little misguided. The fresh fried cake donuts from Dreseen's were special because of the texture. To put heavy sugar frosting on them is gilding the lily, all it needs is a cinnamon or powder dusting and it's fine. The frosting totally overwhelms the natural cake goodness. I think the people running the place are really nice, I'm sure they'll work out the kinks -- less frosting!
