Frankly I prefer mine a little moister, even swamped. What attracted me at Sofia's (apart from the gallery of portraits: Alice and Ralph, DiMaggio and the Mick, Capt. Lou Albino, Det. Tony Baretta, and The Chairman of the Board) was the fat, juicy round of tomato bedecked in basil sauce. The crust had a lot of garlicky butter flavor, too.

These people look to be old-school purveyors of a really, really nice-lookin' pie. We're going to try it on the next visit to Queens.
One peculiarity, however. I've never seen a quote like this on a restaurant's website (I checked Sofia's site):
"Discounts Are Available To Members Of The Pharmaceutical Industry."
Is there a doctor in the house? Or a pharmacist?

I saw that, too, but only on the website, and only after returning home. That's a new one on me!

By email, a 50-year resident of the neighborhood writes:
I prefer Ozone Pizza, bigger slices, heroes, filed rolls, portions, etc. great value. Ever been to New Park on Crossbay Blvd, original oven, just pizza, real 1950's decor...sign offering pizza 'slices', and the neon pizza sign on the front...
My reply:
On this particular day of exploration, I got off the A train within eyeshot of Ozone Pizza, and it was an act of will not to stop in for a slice of Sicilian, but I needed to leave ample room for later discoveries. (Not all my eating this day has been posted, yet.) As for New Park, I've only admired the sign, in passing, but next time I'll make time, and make stomach room, to step inside.
