Following mass at St. Mary's, this Filipino celebration honoring the Virgin Mary segued into a humble procession of about 15 minutes' length. A daylong street fair featured kids' games, a half-dozen flea-market-style tables, plus one bubble-tea stand, one snacks table, and just one full-on cooked-food stall. Already late into my dining day, on a hot afternoon I passed up sizzling skewers in favor of a large cup of canteloupe juice ($2). My relief must have been evident; after a few moments the server proffered an extra ladle of the julienned fruit.
