Like its neighbor Chandni, which sits on the other side of Masjid Ar Rahman, La.Sani offers a steam table centered on South Asian food and, earlier in the day, a few made-to-order breakfast specials.
Mulli paratha ($2.50) is named for its principal filling, daikon. This grated "white radish," though thoroughly stained by chilies, is zingy but not overly spicy. Parathas filled with cauliflower, potato, and ground chicken are also on offer.
Previously: a lunch special ($6, including rice and a petite green salad) featured one dish populated by okra and onion and another, based on lentils, whose seasonings I couldn't pin down. Garlic, certainly, and onion once again. And ginger, said the lady in charge — who had joined the counterman in tending the steam table, as customers filed in after prayers — but her smile suggested that other ingredients were left unsaid.
