The fruit of the hawthorn tree is a popular sugar-dipped treat in Beijing (and a source of syrup, jam, and jelly in the American South), so to little surprise it also flavors one of this Chinatown table's soft drinks ($1.50). Also on offer: winter melon, chamomile, and ban lan gen — also known as dyer's woad, a source of indigo coloring.
