This takeout and patio-dining operation serves up seafood from the commercial fisherman who sail out of Barnegat Light, at the northern end of Long Beach Island. Scallops are a specialty, and wonderfully fresh, but at lunchtime a picnic box (not shown, $9.95) held just five, buttressed by a small serving of cole slaw and a hefty heap of fries. Roughly equivalent in bulk and price, and more delightful, was this Wednesdays-only special that adds a cool white loaf of shellfish to a classic sandwich: a scallop BLT.

I find myself here a few times each summer. Way overpriced, and the staff is truly uninformed. But the fried scallops and Manhattan chowder are the best around. So, I gotta put up with the frustrations.
