The dense Indian ice cream known as kulfi takes many forms, in many flavors. At New Naimat Kada you can find it accented with cashew or almond; this little treat ($2) is simply called a sugar kulfi.

Bare-bones place to sit down for a bite. On one visit, the chicken tikka roomali was mildly spicy and very moist; on another, this version loaded with bihari kabob ($5, or two for $9) was a tad hotter. The roomalis themselves — that is, the rolled breads — are springy and scarcely oily, with nice griddle spotting.

The house brand lemonade (12 fl. oz. bottle; about $1.50) was passable; so was this "bear claw" ($1.75). The number of claws seems to be a matter for the baker's personal preference.

This outpost for "Hungarian lunches and dinners" was quite empty early in the afternoon, and the dim interior didn't beckon me to sit down all by my lonesome. To go, I tried a poppyseed roll ($1.25) sweetened with golden raisins, and probably honey. OK.

Small old-school diner with a belly-filling family touch. I followed my meat loaf hash browns with scrambled eggs and rye toast (special; $7.50) with this tall fat slice of pumpkin cream pie ($2.75), then took a long, slow walk.

Kid-friendly old-school diner with a scattering of more-ambitious seasonal touches, like squash blossom fritters with maple syrup (shown; $2.95). Many customers leaned toward the burgers; at our table we favored fried chicken (four pieces; $9.95); crispy outside, moist inside, though the pieces themselves were small. Potatoes were sweet; perhaps dipped in sugar water before frying. For dessert, very pretty cupcakes with frosted "spines" from the nearby Cosmic Bakery (under the same ownership, I believe) also made a hit with the kids.
