There's isles, and then there's aisles. Apart from a passable produce section, the countries represented by all those flags have less to show for themselves at Fine Fare than its size would suggest. Foska Oats (400 g.; $1.49), has been around in Jamaica for many years, but as you've gathered, its first home was farther north.

Muzzarella Pizza

When the topping is as moist as on this tomato-and-pesto focaccia ($1.75), you'll appreciate a crust that's especially crisp. Not big, but a nice bite. I don't know that I'll venture the pasta menu at this tiny Southern Italian joint — despite a couple of tables, they seem set up mainly for takeout — but I'll definitely have a go at the heroes.

The coffee (larger, "B cup" size; $1.75) is standard, and I can't speak for the sandwich-and-salad menu, but I like the mural outside.

Vernon’s New Jerk House

This jerk chicken (plate; $9) was very tender, though the sour-sweet dry rub could've used more spice; the rice was extra-fluffy and flavorful. Vernon’s is a few blocks off the beaten path of White Plains Rd. but certainly worth the detour.
