Though Tasty Kakes are still a snacktime standard in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, you don't see them much anymore in New York, or even in Connecticut, where until recently I'd been able to top up my stash. My favorite has always been the Kandy Kakes (in biteaway view below; $1.25 for a three-pack), peanut-butter topped cakes wrapped in milk chocolate.
99 Miles to Philly also sells these sandwiches called cheesesteaks, you've heard. My provolone wit' onions ($6.95), though tasty, did little more than make a dent in my appetite. Then again, I had plenty of room for dessert, or two.
