It's the sitting down that can be tricky; once I perched myself on a little red plastic seat, my knees were within comfortable range for resting my elbows. I always detect a faint grassy flavor in fresh-pressed nuoc mia, or sugar cane juice (2,000 dong, about 12 cents at the time), though it might be all in my mind. Maybe it's the sight of the stalks being fed through the press, or the vegetal shade of the juice and the foamy scud on the surface, or maybe it's just the sugar rush playing with my head.
