When I opened the door, I was just planning just to look over the menu for a later day (really), but one deep breath and I was done for.
I cozied up to the U-shaped counter, outfitted with a score of low-backed swivel seats that shimmied to the Motown/oldies soundtrack, and ordered up the basic third-pound burger ($5.85). Squeeze bottles of ketchup and mustard, and a fixings bin of relish, pickle slices, jalapeƱos, white onion, and mayo, were slid my way, and several songs later, so was my burger, already dressed with lettuce, tomato, and red onion and charbroiled a juicy medium rare. The super-thick shakes (about 20 fl. oz.; $4.50), I discovered, are available not only in vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry, but also in coffee and my eventual choice, Cherry Coke.
