I gave my second plain slice at Dani's a chance to settle, affording both of us a closer look at the uncrusty crust from top and bottom. In the photo above, that slice ($2, which seems to be an afternoon special) is flanked by the reflections from a wall-mounted array of twoscore bottled beers. Many of them are uncommon at the equivalent of a lunch-counter operation — pizza is not permitted in the dining room, which is a tad more decorous — but as I mentioned, this was afternoon, and those beers got a pass.
Owing to my poorly executed pinch and fold, the sauce and cheese on my first slice slumped onto its paper plate, and every effort to drag it back on left me with a viscous heap that looked less and less like a slice. (Eventually I managed to put it away, but it wasn't pretty.) The sauce, on both slices, was very sweet.
