Shrimp yat gaw mein ($4.25) — at "U" Like Garden, it's also available in chicken, beef, or pork — is yet one more take on a dish I know best from New Orleans. This brothy quart-sized version found room for lo mein, carrots, cabbage, broccoli, snow pea pods, scallions, and (deep down) a respectable number of abashedly puny shrimp, but it omitted the all-important hardboiled egg. I like it with much more black pepper, too.
