There's no mistaking the featured attraction.
Bartolo "Buddy" Valastro, pictured on a nearby payphone, is the namesake star of the TLC show "Cake Boss." He won that moniker with his wedding, birthday, and other specialty cakes, any of which are more elaborate than the simple sugar fix I had in mind this day. After a brief distraction (the apricot hamentashen didn't luminesce with a come-hither look, not really), I ordered a slab of crumb cake ($2) decorated in matte white like the Cake Boss himself.
Was it sugary? Yes. Buttery? Not so much as I like. They let me down, the crumbs.
