It's the modest looks that beckoned me from across the street, just as at Domilise's, Parasol's, and any number of eateries in New Orleans. Maino's doesn't prepare food, but its small selection of produce, herbs, sauces, and the like is on offer to anyone who drops by; so's the firewood under the counter and the prepackaged treats atop it. As it happens, Little Debbie (apple pie; 75 cents) is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2010, but even so the bakery is Maino's junior by about a decade.
