(This venue is closed.) From across the way, Adi's still resembles an Old World butcher shop hanging on to old times.
The Slovenian-born founder and his son (who now runs the business) still proffer a heady assortment of smoked meats, just as they have for more than 50 years. Their choice of raw material, however — cow skin, chicken feet, pig parts literally from nose to tail, among others — reflects the neighborhood's growing numbers of Caribbean and West African residents.
When I'm ready to try a recipe that calls for smoked oxtail, here's where I'll do my marketing, but for today, just a pair of the beef sausages ($3.99 per pound, about a quarter-pound each). The hot ones, please.
