More from this one-day festival, which featured several "specialties of Kyushu, Japan's southernmost island": taipien, a mung bean noodle soup native to the city of Kumamoto, with pork, a quail egg, cabbage, and other veggies; konyac (also konjac, or konnyaku), a gel-like product derived from the corm of an East Asian plant, here flavored with green tea or leeks; deep-fried curry pan; Ramune soda; and ikinari dango, a dumpling also hailing from Kumamoto, filled with azuki beans and boiled sweet potato, and served warm.
