These putu piring, or steamed rice-flour cakes, were snowed under by grated coconut. Wrapped while still warm, the airy cakes (three for S$1.00, about 75 U.S. cents at the time) absorbed fragrance from shards of pandan leaves. One cake has been flipped to reveal the palm sugar payload.
