Evidence that a market is well-connected to the community usually suggests that the snacks are good, too.
Battambang — at least on the day of my visit — had let out some floor space to a keymaker, just inside the door, and a dealer in gifts, art, and keepsakes, at back and to the left. The travel-related services flagged on the awning, passport photos and airline tickets, perhaps were handled by still another separate enterprise, perhaps by the prime tenant; by this time I'd turned my attention to what was fresh for carry-out. Shown: bac bin ($1.25), a shredded-yuca pastry; and nom khom (two for $1), banana-leaf-wrapped glutinous rice surrounding coconut, sugar, and black sesame. The nom khom were still warm enough to fog a clear plastic bag.
