Indeed, at this point one lady had filled her tray, and a referee was swapping in an empty. The raw materials for these glutinous rice dumplings (below) — though not as enticing as those in my favorite Singaporean bak chang — were a cut above the New York standard. Unfortunately, no samples were to be had.
The many rounds of this competition were interspersed with dance, martial arts, and other performances, all in celebration of the annual Dragon Boat Festival. Though I watched, left for a good hour, then returned to see the later round shown here, I didn't stay till the very end, so I can't say how the competition turned out.
