An earlier, after-dinner visit to this Hong Kong-style dessert shop began inauspiciously: The classic almond and black sesame "paste soups," hand-ground each morning, were sold out for the day. My friends and I sampled a durian wrap, which sported more whipped cream than gooey fruit, and muo muo cha cha, which, unlike its chunky warm Malaysian relative bubur chacha, was porridgelike and chilled.
Lunchtime was more propitious. A warm "yin yang" paste soup ($4.25) partnered the black sesame, which on its own might taste too sharp, with the gentler, sweeter almond. Balance achieved.
