Until an EIT reader prompted a closer look (thanks, David!), I hadn't known that Sugar City is the nickname of the West Indian island of St. Kitts. (I'd noticed the tiny flag before, but it hadn't registered; in my defense, it's an unofficial variation on the national colors.) This tiny bakery stocks a few savory Jamaican patties and one Kittitian beef patty (about $1.25) whose plump, irregular contours could only have been shaped by hand. Also shown: an unassuming roll (slice, about $1.25), whose delicious filling was pretty much just grated coconut and sugar.
