In New York, horchata (or-Chah-tah) is commonly sold as a rice-based, cinnamon-scented Mexican soft drink. (On this table at the Red Hook Ball Fields — years back, when the vendors operated under canopies rather than inside carts and trucks — horchata is the beverage farthest from the camera.) It freezes well into a paleta, or ice pop, but thaws just as readily — my improvised drip guard was utterly ineffectual.
