Milkcow

Milky Cube, one of a dozen-plus preconfigured options at this Korean chain, adds chewy honeycomb to a swirl of soft serve. (To be sure, "Cube" isn't the right shape for honeycomb, but "Milky Hex" could be a low-budget flick about a haunted farm.) The soft serve itself brought to mind a long-ago cone of fresh milk soft ice cream — emphasis on "fresh milk."

Rogowski Farm

The three-berry scone nearest the corner of the bin looked to be the most heavily laden with blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. Perhaps my eyes did the talking — the vendor plucked out that very scone before I could point a finger. Most of its sweetness, what there was, came from the berries themselves.

Leftovers by design: Beef curry is prepared each Friday at this Japanese cafe, and served from midday till evening. It returns in this more concentrated form at brunch on Saturday, but — as I'd discovered previously, to my regret — never for long.

Uyghur Apandi Food

Nan kordak paired crusty bread with stewed lamb and vegetables. Kuurdak, as commonly spelled, can be prepared with lamb organs instead, or with other meats except pork. (This stall, like many Central Asian kitchens in New York, keeps halal.) Swap in chicken for the lamb, and belt noodles for the bread, and you'd have da pan ji.

Meiling Snacks

(This venue is closed.) This steamed roll, at first glance, might seem to cradle well-cooked mini-franks. In fact, those are fruits. Jujubes, when first ripe, have a taut skin, often yellow-green patched in brown, and an apple-like crispness and flavor. Mature, they wrinkle, sweeten, and take on a mahogany color that suggests another common name, Chinese dates. (Mind the little pits.) Although just seven jujubes are in sight, you likely know that Chinese cultures accord good fortune to the number eight, a homophone for "prosperity." Sure enough, one more jujube was concealed deep within the folds.
