Coffee cake? Not in the usual sense.
This babka would go wonderfully with cream cheese or butter, said the presiding lady at this Polish congregation's bake sale. Even discounting the raisins, it was very rich and moist. I don't have any insights into the recipe, but the rings imprinted on its surface make plain where the babka was baked — in a coffee can. Store-bought sweets from Greenpoint were on offer, too.
Also shown: from a later visit, a slice of homemade chocolate-walnut-coconut-pineapple cake; a statue honoring gold star mothers.
