When fresh from the oven, the khaliat al-nahl at Qahwah House ("honeycomb bread" at this Yemeni "coffee house") is lacquered with honey. More honey is offered later, after your individual slice has been rewarmed; there's just enough to overtop the crevices between the cheese-filled cells of the comb. If you gently pull apart the bread with the fingers of one hand (I used a fork simply for a clearer photo), your other, unsticky, hand will be free to manage the coffee — the menu offers many interesting options by the pot.
