Once associated with the pre-Lenten season, nowadays in New York sanguinaccio often appears as late as Easter. Of the bakeries in the Bronx's Little Italy that still prepare it as pudding or in pastries, however, reportedly only Egidio still incorporates the traditional pig's blood. Yes, it is rich; an espresso-cupful will be plenty.
